YouTube, the world largest video sharing site, turns seven today!
Created by three former PayPal employees in February 2005, the world largest video sharing site has came a long way and seven years later, it has gone from being a site available on desktops to now being available on almost any device that connects to the Internet.
Throughout this seven years, the company has grown to 800 million users with 50 percent subscription rate and watching over three billion hours a month. On average, 72 hours of videos are uploaded to the site every minute (fun fact: that’s 1,194 Nyan Cats uploaded every minute). In 2012 alone, YouTube global mobile playbacks have gone up to 600 million per day.
YouTube wants to thank everyone for the continuous support, and says that: “Behind the tens of millions of channels on YouTube featuring talented filmmakers, home videos, skateboarding tricks, music, and car enthusiasts there has always been one consistent voice: you. Throughout our seven years you’ve made the YouTube community what it is. Thank you!”
